The Blackbird Hotel is growing. Just across the street, a historic New Orleans house is getting a new chapter as The Blackbird 1890. Built in 1890 as the Queen Anne Hotel, the restored Victorian brings 11 new rooms, a front porch and Bar 1890 to the Lower Garden District. The original architecture remains, now layered with the moody interiors and unmistakable black exterior that define The Blackbird.
Eleven Rooms, Each Their Own
Eleven brand-new rooms fill this Victorian home, and no two are alike. New Orleans designer Jeannine Jacob, who also designed The Blackbird Hotel, gave every room its own character while honoring the spirit of a historic home. The details are deliberate throughout, the kind you notice on the second look and remember long after checkout.
The Heart of the House
At the heart of The Blackbird 1890 is Bar 1890, an intimate lobby bar inspired by the house's 1890 origins. The cocktail menu looks to the era for inspiration, while the room itself feels unmistakably New Orleans: intimate, atmospheric and made for gathering. Bar 1890 is open to everyone, whether you're staying upstairs or simply looking for a good place to start or end the evening.
Two Houses, One Stay
Across the street, The Blackbird Hotel is yours to enjoy. Start the morning with espresso or breakfast at Blackbird Café. Spend the afternoon at the saltwater pool, surrounded by palms and lush greenery. Steeped In History
Long before it became part of The Blackbird, the house at 1612 Prytania Street was welcoming travelers. Built in 1890 as the Queen Anne Hotel, the Victorian home was part of the Lower Garden District's early hotel scene.
More than a century later, The Blackbird brought the house back to life as an expansion of the hotel, restoring its original architecture while giving it a distinctly Blackbird point of view. The historic details remain, from the character of the house itself to its sense of place, now layered with moody interiors, thoughtful design and the signature black exterior that connects it to The Blackbird Hotel across the street.
